Become an AYSO Referee
The referee’s job is to be the official in charge of the game. A referee’s authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees. AYSO Referees keep the game safe, fair, and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators, and themselves!
Step 1
First, contact your local AYSO’s Regional Commissioner. You will then be asked to fill out a volunteer form.
Step 2
Once you are a registered AYSO volunteer, your Regional Commissioner will ask you to take two online courses: CDC Concussion Awareness and AYSO Safe Haven.
Step 3
Next, take an age-specific referee course. We offer online support including e-learning courses and supplemental Referee Manuals to help with training plans and activities for all AYSO programs and age groups.
AYSO Region 1370 is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees, and administrators are volunteers who lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific soccer experience.
Our volunteer foundation ensures that it’s all about what’s good for kids. It also makes our region affordable and provides a happy, healthy experience for kids playing a sport they can enjoy for life.
AYSO has developed special training that helps parents with little or no soccer experience quickly gain the knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees.
It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level referee. If you're short on time, even helping a few hours each season is a valuable contribution to your team and Region!
AYSO Region 1370 training doesn’t stop—referees, coaches, and administrators have access to clinics, workshops, and advanced training as long as they’re having fun.
