REFEREES

Become an AYSO Referee

The referee’s job is to be the official in charge of the game.
A referee’s authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees.
AYSO Referees keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators, and themselves!

First, contact your local AYSO’s Regional Commissioner.
You will then be asked to fill out a volunteer form.

Once you are a registered AYSO volunteer, your Regional Commissioner will ask you to take two online courses, CDC Concussion Awareness, and AYSO Safe Haven.

Once you are registered as a volunteer, your Regional Commissioner will ask you to take an age-specific referee course.
We offer online support including e-learning courses and supplemental Referee Manuals to help you with training plans and activities for all AYSO programs and age groups.

AYSO Region 1370 is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are volunteers who lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific soccer experience.
Our volunteer foundation ensures that it’s all about what’s good for kids. It also makes our region very affordable and ensure that we provide a happy, healthy experience for kids playing a sport they can enjoy for life.

AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It also has unique administrative and management training.

It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee. But if you’re not able to commit even that much time, there are many small jobs you can help with.
Even a couple of hours each season are an important contribution to your team and Region!

AYSO Region 1370 training doesn’t stop as long as you’re having fun. Referees, coaches and administrators have clinics, workshops and other advanced training available to advance their skills.

Referees are as critical to soccer as players and coaches. Soccer knowledge is a plus, but is certainly not required. The AYSO referee training will give you all you need to know to have a terrific experience on the field.
